Congrats, you’re engaged!
And now that the immediate euphoria is dying down, you’re probably wondering… what’s next? The big question has been asked and now there seem to be some other big questions popping into your head.
Where do you start? Where will it all go down? When will it all happen? How do you choose your color palette? How do you incorporate your family? Your soon-to-be spouse’s family? What will you wear? Where will your honeymoon be?
Everything from picking the season of the year to the detailing on your bar napkins begins to swirl around in your head, and soon enough, saying “yes” seems like that’ll be as easy as it gets in this entire process.
But here at RDE, we’re passionate about making this season of your life as stress-free as possible! Read on as this blog will help you gain some clarity on what to do after you say yes to forever.
“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”
– Bride Book.
Before scrolling through every Pinterest Board and every #weddingidea tag on Instagram, give yourself the enormous opportunity to simply stop and breathe. Sit in this moment you’re experiencing and celebrate it.
You’ve found your lobster (Friends fan, anyone?), and you both have just said yes to celebrating and journeying through life together.
Personally, we don’t think it gets any better than that until you both meet at the altar and say “I do,” so why not fall in love with this moment? Why not celebrate each other and the connection you both have built to get you to this milestone? The never-ending questions of your engagement will be there waiting, and most times, there is no immediate need to answer them now.
Whether you’ve dreamed about this day since you were little or you only started thinking about it after you met your partner, your big day is not yours alone – it belongs to the both of you.
So after you’ve had a chance to soak in this moment, start thinking about when’s a good time to have the talk with your soon-to-be spouse. While it can get more in-depth as your engagement season progresses, it’s essential to at least speak with each other and nail out a solid foundation of what you’re both thinking.
Be open and honest with your partner as having your dreams, and theirs challenged by opposing ideas may be hard to navigate at first. However, approaching it understandably and logically from the beginning will set you up for success in the long run once you can discuss compromises on important things.
Once you’ve talked, the next step in your engagement process is getting support. Because whether you get it from family, professionals, or both – the wedding planning process is not one that any couple should do alone!
