The lovely thing about weddings is that there are so many ways to use this day to truly embody who you and your partner are. In many ways, it’s like taking you and your partners’ story and love and turning it into an interactive thing.
Because that’s what weddings are! An interactive and expressive event (or experience) where all your loved ones can come celebrate your love.
So how do you actually create the wedding that embodies that? While we know many things go into making a wedding that is personable and unique, we think one of the biggest things is your floral design. Florals hold the power to tie together every detail of your wedding and subsequently help create a specific atmosphere.
Even if you’re not a big “flower person,” there are many different kinds of florals to consider, and nothing adds some magic like florals! Read on to find out more about how you can find the right floral design that’s just perfect for your wedding!
Once you know the aesthetic or vibe you want for your wedding day and your intended wedding colors, finding what flowers compliment that becomes tremendously easier.
You can Google to find out what flowers or arrangements can best give off the feel you want, or you can check out Pinterest! Because as most of us know, Pinterest is a wedding’s best friend. Don’t be shy about what you like; print or pin any flowers or colors that catch your eye along with arrangements for your entire day (ceremony, reception, etc.) and keep them all on one board, ready to show your florist once you find the right one (more on that next!)
You can even check out our Pinterest here for any needed floral inspiration.
Forewarning! We all know it is easy to have champagne taste on a beer budget and unfortunately Pinterest makes this so much more apparent! Keep this in mind as you dive deep into the wedding world of Pinterest.
Don’t just go with any Florist! You’ll want to ask friends you trust and do your own thorough research online! Reviews and awards are essential in this area, so make sure you have results you can look at.
While you’ll (of course) also want to ask for pricing, when meeting with a florist you’ll want to take the opportunity to tell them the aspects of the day that truly matters to you (remember what you notated while doing your research above!) If you have non-negotiables for a design, this meeting is where you should share it with your hopeful florist and see what they can do to make those needs happen. During this meeting, your florist should not only let you know if that is something they can do but also let you know if the flowers you’ve chosen will be in season when the wedding day finally rolls around! A good Florist should know this 😉
Floral design can take a big chunk out of your budget, so if you’re someone who’s been dreaming about a flower-filled wedding, make sure that your budget prioritizes as much!
If you’re not big on flowers or simply want to be conscious about your budget, we suggest focusing your floral budget on personals (bouquets, boutonnieres, etc) and on the main planned photographed spaces of your wedding (alter/aisle, sweetheart table or head table, and dance floor.)
*Industry Insight: Due to the ongoing pandemic and other industry circumstances, there is a current shortage and subsequent inflation on Floral Design. Be prepared not only to hear that flowers are costing more than normal but to also be flexible in your budget! To navigate this with ease, we suggest having a clear understanding of your priorities when it comes to what you want in regards to keeping within your budget or getting the desired look.
When deciding on floral arrangements for your ceremony or reception, don’t forget how that may affect your guests in your chosen venue. For example, in the ceremony area, you don’t want huge arrangements that may block them from the show, and while your guests are seated at their tables, you don’t want centerpieces that are too big and could easily get in the way of people being able to converse.
Flowers are the make it or break it for the overall experience of your wedding. But with so many different options available, you have plenty of flexibility to be as specific and unique as you want!
